A fire that took place in Kirin-myeon, Inje-gun, Gangwon Province on the 20th was put out after roughly 17 hours. At around 10:30 a.m. on the 21st, forest officials stated that they had successfully extinguished the main flames of the Inje fire. The estimated area affected is 36 hectares, with no injuries reported. Forest authorities started increasing firefighting activities from 7:10 a.m. on that day by using 29 helicopters. This fire is believed to have begun around 5:23 p.m. on the 20th in a farm shed-style container and then spread to nearby hills. Although the fire moved towards the mountain peak during the night, firefighters and the Forest Service’s aerial firefighting team concentrated on ground suppression efforts, stopping it from spreading to nearby slopes. Forest authorities intend to examine the precise cause of the fire and the extent of the damage after finishing the cleanup of any remaining fires.
