England WAGs Navigate World Cup Bag Restrictions
As the England national football team prepared for the World Cup, their partners—often referred to as WAGs (Wives and Girlfriends)—were also getting ready for the spotlight. While the players focused on their performance on the field, the WAGs were busy curating stylish wardrobes that would make them stand out in the stands.
However, FIFA's strict stadium regulations have added an unexpected challenge to their preparations. The rules require all spectators to carry only small, transparent bags, which has forced the WAGs to rethink their fashion choices. As a result, they've had to bring along an unusual accessory: a tape measure.
The Tape Measure Trend
The restrictions state that clear bags must not exceed 12 inches by 12 inches, while non-clear bags are limited to 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches. This allows security staff to quickly inspect items as fans enter the stadiums.
Ellie Watkins, wife of Aston Villa striker Ollie, shared her experience with her TikTok followers, saying, "I've been using the measuring tape for the last two weeks." Similarly, Jordan Pickford’s wife Megan, who was filmed measuring bags during a shopping trip to Selfridges, joked on social media: "We're going to make sandwich bags happen. I even know the offside rule, handbag edition."
Stylish Solutions Under New Rules
Despite the restrictions, the WAGs have found ways to maintain their fashion flair. In Dallas for England's game against Croatia, Mrs. Watkins, 30, was spotted in the crowd wearing a black Chanel vanity case cross-body bag, costing upwards of £5,000. Mrs. Pickford also played by the rules, sporting a white Lady Dior bag worth more than £2,500.
However, Mrs. Pickford faced a minor setback when her luggage failed to arrive just hours before the game. She was noticeably without an England jersey at last night's game, instead wearing a white vest top and a cowboy hat that featured the number '1', a nod to her husband Jordan's position.
A Nostalgic Vision
Mrs. Pickford recently revealed her dream of bringing back the WAG era of the 2006 World Cup, which saw Victoria Beckham, Coleen Rooney, and Cheryl Tweedy become the center of attention as they cheered on their partners in Germany
Other WAGs Join the Cause
Mrs. Pickford and Mrs. Watkins were joined by other England WAGs yesterday, including Kate Kane, 33 – wife of Harry – who took a £2,000 Chanel cross-body phone case to the fixture. Influencer Ashlyn Castro, 27, was also in the family box. She wore a camo-print mini skirt and her boyfriend Jude Bellingham's shirt, carefully making her way to her seat while carrying drinks in both hands.

Adapting to the New Norm
While the new bag rules may seem restrictive, the WAGs have shown their adaptability and style. They continue to support their partners while navigating the unique challenges of the World Cup. With their fashion sense and determination, they are proving that they can still shine brightly under the bright stadium lights.
